It seems possible that the Alliance version of the quest could involve Jaina Proudmoore. According to WoWWiki, "Excerpt from the World of Warcraft Game Manual: 'Jaina Proudmoore is the most powerful human sorceress alive.'" She also witnessed first hand Arthas's descent into madness. It's possible that she thinks she can save Arthas, similar to Luke saving Anakin, and needs to test that theory on current Death Knights.
