I dont know how many people here played WC3. Arthas started out being a pally studying the light and later corrupted by frostmourne's power to destroy the lich king, and became a death knight who served him instead. If this game was to stay true to the original story, only Pallies will be able to change into death knights.

Im guessing that's why Blizz gave horde the pally class for BC.
