Although I am not a fan of Knaak's style..it is a means to an end. I love the lore in this game and Blizzard allows him to write the stories so I will read them.

BTW it was the destruction of the Demon Soul in Day of the Dragon that gave Malygos his sanity back.

I believe the lore we will see in Wrath and have seen in various places is that the Netherwing Dragon essences and eggs that Tyri(humanoid form for the Blue Dragon Tyrygosa), who we quest for in Netherstorm, takes back to Malygos is what brings him out of the insanity that he was in when Krasus(AKA Korialstrasz) finds him in Day of the Dragon. The rending of the Demon Soul was only to return the power that Neltharion tricked the dragon's and their aspects into giving up in the war.
